" Like most of our customers, we were very concerned about the high levels of chemicals, salt, and sugar in the majority of commercial snacks that our own dog was consuming." So, we decided to bake our dogs some snacks at home in our kitchen.
After researching what is and is not healthy for dogs by speaking to holistic veterinarians, breeders, and doing a lot of reading, we developed a natural, wholesome dog snack. After a very positive response from our dogs, we let our friends' dogs try some and ... they all loved it!

THE NORTHERN PET PRODUCTS STORY...
Back in 1991 in a small four-room apartment in Etobicoke, Ontario, the birth of a new “All Canadian Company” took place. This is when and where Northern Pet founders Nick and Patty Grillo started looking to treat Tasha (their miniature American Eskimo with very picky taste buds) and realized there were few healthy snacks for dogs in the marketplace that were preservative free, could be part of a HOLISTIC diet and that dogs would BEG to eat.
After researching various healthy diets and using some of their own innovative ideas for preparing tasty foods, they developed a dog biscuit for which Tasha and many of their friends’ family dogs would go “crazy”. Sensing an opportunity they decided to test market the dog biscuit at the St. Jacobs Farmer’s Market outside of Waterloo, Ontario. Brown paper lunch bags would suffice for packaging upon which a photocopied label of a Husky was pasted “all natural concept”.
As demand grew on a weekly basis Patty and Nick realized that they had better bake more and more cookies!
As a result, Patty and Nick spent many days, late evenings and weekends trying to meet the increasing requests for their biscuits.
A little at a time and with a lot of patience and tenacity, Northern Dog Biscuits were slowly popping up on Pet Food Store shelves all over Ontario and eventually Canada.
While the product line has expanded from one flavour of Dog Biscuits to over a dozen as well as introducing a full line of Equine treats, Northern Pet Products has maintained it’s commitment to providing innovative, functional treats baked without preservatives or artificial ingredients, ideal snacks as part of a HOLISTIC diet
