With July right around the corner, the team here at Northern Biscuit is gearing up for one of our favourite holidays of the year: Canada Day! We have always been proudly Canadian, and when the chance comes to celebrate all things great about this big beautiful country, we just can't help ourselves. Canada Day ushers in the summer, and provides everyone with the chance to let loose, enjoy the warm weather, and relax with the ones we love - including our best four-legged friends, of course! In order to help you and your pups make the most out of this wonderful long weekend, we’ve come up with 5 safety tips to keep in mind when out and about with your fur babies this July 1st!
Make sure your dog has access to a shaded area. Both humans and their furry friends love the prime sunshine time that comes with celebrating Canada Day. Too much sun, however, can be harmful for your dog, so ensure that they always have a place to take a break from the rays.
Test the pavement to make sure it’s not too hot for your dog’s paws. This is a step that a lot of people overlook since we humans have our shoes to protect us from the elements. Unfortunately, our pups don’t have the same protection, so make sure it’s safe for them to walk before taking them outside for the day.
Keep your dog hydrated, wherever your adventure takes you. The heat on a July day can be stifling, so make sure your pup is equipped with portable water throughout the day, so they can stay safe happy in the heat.
Put a doggie-lifejacket on your pup when you’re near the water. Canada Day is a perfect cottage holiday, but it’s important to make sure that your dog is safe when you are hanging out by the lake. Water is unpredictable to even the most seasoned of swimmers!
Keep your dog safe and secure during the fireworks. The loud noises from the fireworks can easily spook your pup (and sometimes even send them running!) so it’s best to keep them indoors in a safe and quiet place for the duration of the display.
Keeping these tips in mind is a sure-fire way to have a relaxed and fun-filled Canada Day weekend with your dog (Psst! Our Craft Beer Biscuits sure don’t hurt either!). So have some fun, catch some rays, and enjoy the extra-long break with your best four-legged friend.
Happy Canada Day!
